Softball Travels to Murray State

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State softball team will travel to Murray State this weekend for a three-game set against the leaders of the Ohio Valley Conference.
 
The Matchup: Tennessee State Tigers (12-27, 3-11 OVC) vs. Murray State Racers (27-11, 11-3 OVC)

About the Tigers: Tennessee State took one-of-three against Austin Peay last weekend on the TSU campus, as Saturday resulted in a spilt prior to Sunday's victory by APSU. In game one of the series, Peyton Fointno matched her season-high with three hits and drove in two runs. In game two, the Tigers earned the victory behind Francys King's pitching performance as she tossed five innings of one run ball. Fointno leads the team in hits (28), doubles (8) and RBI (16) while Anayah Baker ranks second in doubles (7) and RBI (11). Baker's currently on a four-game hit streak, the second-longest streak by a Tiger this season. Jasmine Brown ranks seventh in the conference with 10 stolen bases. In terms of OVC rankings, TSU's pitching staff has two hurlers in the top 10 of innings pitched. Caitlyn Manus ranks sixth in the OVC with 91.0 innings pitched while Raven Loveless has tossed 80.0 innings which ranks ninth.
 
About the Racers: Murray State sits atop the Ohio Valley Conference after winning two-of-three against Belmont last weekend. The Racers run-ruled the Bruins in game one by a nine-run margin, fell in game two and secured the series victory in the rubber match on Sunday. Logan Braundmeier leads the team in hits (47), doubles (21), and stolen bases (7) while she ranks second in home runs (6), RBI (31) and walks (15). In terms of OVC leaders, Braundmeier ranks third in hits, second in runs scored, fifth in RBI and leads the conference in doubles. MSU's leader in home runs (7) and RBI (34), Gracie Osbron, has recorded four multi-hit games in the last five contests. Hannah James is the workhorse in the circle as she's started in 22 of 25 appearances, compiling a 13-4 record (1.51 ERA) with 11 complete games. The redshirt junior's struck out 146 batters and allowed 14 walks in 115.2 innings pitched.
