Softball Drops DH at Murray State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 MURRAY, Ky. – The Tennessee State softball team dropped the Saturday afternoon doubleheader against Murray State.

INSIDE THE MATCHUP (Game Two):
Final: Murray State 6 (W: Hannah James, 15-4), Tennessee State 0 (L: Raven Loveless, 4-12)
Records: Tennessee State Tigers (12-29, 3-13 OVC), Murray State Racers (29-11, 13-3 OVC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:
BOT 6TH: Murray State's Logan Braundmeier clubbed her seventh home run of the season on a solo shot. Lindsey Carroll followed up with a single through the left side. In the following at-bat, Sierra Gilmore lined a double to center field which advanced Carroll to third. The runners remained at second and third after an infield single for Gracie Osbron. With the bases-juiced, Lily Fischer singled to right field as Ivory Jones made a diving attempt but could not corral the hump-back liner. The Racers scored two runs on the shallow single by Fischer. After a pitching change for TSU, Yanna Marrow connected for a three-run home run to extend the lead. || MSU, 6-0

INSIDE THE STATS:
  • Ryla Traylor recorded the lone hit of the game for TSU.
  • Murray State's Hannah James, went a complete game, allowed one hit and struck out a career-high 14 batters.
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • The Tigers have recorded one hit in three straight games.
  • MSU's James set the all-time school record for strikeouts in a single season, as well as the school's all-time career strikeout record by a Racer.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
BOT 1ST: With one out, Lindsey Carroll connected for a solo home run to give Murray State an early lead. After a double from Sierra Gilmore, Gracie Osbron ripped a two-run homer to extend the lead for MSU. The Tigers made a pitching change and allowed Lily Fischer to reach on a throwing error. Taylor Jackson drove in Fischer with a two-out double to right-center field. || MSU, 4-0
 
BOT 2ND: Lindsey Braundmeier poked a single through the right side to lead off the frame. Braundmeier stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. After a walk to Carroll, Gilmore drove in a run with a single through the left side. Osbron reached on a fielder's choice, but an error on the play allowed Carroll to score from second. Osbron stole second and tagged up on a fly out. With two outs, Isabella Wilson recorded an RBI double to right field for the seventh run of the contest. || MSU, 7-0
 
BOT 6TH: The Racers' Jensen Striegel led off the sixth inning and reached on a throwing error. The misplay by the Tigers' pitcher allowed Striegel to advance. With Striegel on second base, Carroll capped off the weekend with an RBI double. || MSU, 8-0

INSIDE THE STATS:
  • Anayah Baker recorded the lone hit of the game for TSU.
  • Murray State's Lindsey Carroll went 2-for-3 with a double, home run, two RBI and two runs scored.
BEYOND THE BOX:
  • The Tigers have recorded one hit in four straight games.
  • MSU's Sierra Gilmore extended her hit streak to eight games.
UP NEXT: Tennessee State is set to host Alabama A&M on Tuesday afternoon for a mid-week, matinee doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Tiger Field.
