Softball Travels to Morehead State

NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State softball team will hit the road for the final time in 2022 and travel to Morehead for a three-game set. The series has been moved up to Friday and Saturday, due to inclement weather.
 
The Matchup: Tennessee State Tigers (13-35, 4-18 OVC) vs. Morehead State Eagles (6-32, 5-16 OVC)
Date/Time: Friday, April 29 – 3:00pm / 5:00pm (DH) || Saturday, April 30 – 1:00pm
Location: University Softball Field || Morehead, Ky.
 
About the Tigers: Tennessee State spilt the mid-week series against Belmont on Wednesday afternoon. TSU secured the victory in game two as Ivory Jones logged a two-out, two-run triple to put the Tigers in front. The victory snapped Belmont's eight-game winning streak, while it was the first time TSU's beat BU since 2018 (10 games). Over her last four games, Jones is batting .500 (5-for-10) with a double, triple and three RBI. Raven Loveless started in both games of the doubleheader, as she owns the team lead with 18 starts in 27 appearances. Caitlyn Manus and Francys King round out the rotation as all three pitchers have appeared in at least 23 games each. Manus earned her seventh victory of the season; the freshman has tossed eight complete games, striking out 78 batters in 113.2 innings pitched. Peyton Fointno leads the team with 32 hits, eight doubles and 17 RBI.
 
About the Eagles: Morehead State has lost five of the last six games after splitting with Tennessee Tech on Wednesday. Madeline Gailor is tied for the team-lead in hits (24) with Peyton Slater, however, Slater has played nine more games than Gailor. Additionally, Gailor leads the team in RBI (17) and stolen bases (10-for-12). Alexis Strother is the leader in extra-base hits with five doubles and a home run. In the circle, Lennon Spicer owns a 4-16 record (4.99 ERA) in 22 appearances.
