BERKELEY, Calif. – Taking on two tough opponents from the Mountain West Conference and Pac 12 conference on day one of the Cal Tournament, the Tennessee State volleyball team put up a good fight, despite dropping both matches. The Tigers dropped their first game of the day to the University of Nevada 3-1, followed by a 3-0 loss to the host school Cal. TSU moves to 2-7 after the two losses.
Game One: UNR 3, TSU 1
TSU won the first set, but couldn't hang on and lost in four sets (25-18, 15-25, 18-25, 20-25) to the Nevada Wolf Pack Friday at Haas Pavilion in their first match.

Alcantara finished with 10 kills in the match to lead the Tigers attack. Defensively, TSU had four players reach double figures in digs, highlighted by

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Tigers won the first point and never looked back to win the first set 25-18. Tennessee State led by as many as eight points at 24-16 before finishing off the set. TSU also supplemented their offense with four aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | TSU then dropped the second set 25-15, evening the match at a set apiece. The Tigers dropped the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before dropping the set.
SET 3 | Tennessee State fell again in set three to make it a 2-1 deficit. The Tigers lost a tough set 25-18. Tennessee State trailed by as many as seven points as Nevada grabbed the advantage for good at 12-11 in a set that was tied up six times before the Wolf Pack took over the lead.
SET 4 | Tennessee State lost set four and the match, falling 25-20. Nevada grabbed the advantage for good at 17-16 and Tennessee State was never able to recover in a set that was tied up two times before the Wolf Pack took over in the second half of the stanza.
Game Two: Cal 3, TSU 0
The Tennessee State volleyball team fell to the Cal Golden Bears in straight sets (17-25, 18-25, 14-25) Friday on the road at Haas Pavilion in their second game of the Cal Tournament, and second match of the day.
The non-conference loss moved Tennessee State to 2-6 on the season.
Alcantara finished with eight kills on the day to lead the Tigers offense. Defensively, TSU had two players reach double figures in digs as

SET 1 | The Tigers found themselves in an early deficit, losing a tough first set 25-17. Tennessee State trailed by as many as eight points, as Cal never gave up the lead in a set that was tied up zero times. Cal took the lead and did not look back.
SET 2 | Tennessee State dropped the second set 25-18, digging a 2-0 hole in the match. The Lady Tigers dropped the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before dropping the set.
SET 3 | TSU could not win set three and was swept by Cal. The Tigers fell behind on the first point and never clawed back into the lead before falling in the set 25-14.
