BRENTWOOD, Tenn. - After a 4-0 showing in The Tiger Invitational, three players from the Tennessee State Volleyball Team received Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week honors.

Gina Rivera-Ortiz was her usually solid self on the back row scooping up 83 digs to earn the Defensive Player of the Week honor. This was her fourth time being named as a conference player of the week in her career. Rivera-Ortiz is ranked third in the OVC in digs per set (5.14) and third in total digs (221).
Login Williams has been on fire running the Tiger offense. She was named Setter of the Week. This past week, she dished out 145 assists and surpassed her season high twice against Belmont (39) then against North Alabama (48). She is fourth in the OVC with 306 assists on the season.
Johanna Alcantara was named Newcomer of the Week. The transfer from Lindsey Wilson College has made herself into a force around the net. She was especially clutch in the final two games in the Tiger invitational where she had a .529 hitting percentage against Alcorn State and 22 kills in the upset victory over North Alabama. Against UNA, she stepped in and played back row in the third set and contributed two digs. Alcantara leads the OVC in total kills with 164.
"To have three named as player of the week is a great accomplishment," said TSU head coach
Donika Sutton. "This is especially good because we are going into conference play on a high note. These players and others played hard. This is well deserved."
The Tigers open OVC play traveling to Martin, Tennessee to take on UT-Martin on Tuesday.
