NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee State volleyball team will be back on the road this weekend, as they will travel to Berkeley, California, to play three games in the Cal Tournament. On Friday, TSU will face the University of Nevada at 12:00 p.m. (Pac 12 TV), followed by 9:00 p.m. match with the host school Cal (Pac 12 TV). The Tigers will close out the Cal tournament by playing Utah Tech at 2:00 p.m. PT on Saturday.
The tournament finishes a seven-game road trip. The Tigers will host their own tournament on September 15 and 16.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS:
- The Tigers look to build on the four-set road victory at Evansville going into this tournament. Transfer Johanna Alcantara continued her solid start to her season, leading TSU with 16 kills. The Tiger defense had two players reach double figures in digs as Gina Rivera-Ortiz had 14, and Sofia Garcia-Guerrios had 10. From the front row, Gabrielle Johnson contributed seven blocks.
- Tennessee State attackers were helped by a team-high 34 assists from Login Williams.
- Tennessee State never trailed on the way to winning the fourth set 25-14.
SCOUTING NEVADA
- Nevada is coming out of an undefeated weekend at the Gonzaga tournament. Kayla Afoa, Kia Kaohelaulii, and Gabby McLaughlin were selected All-Tournament team. McLaughlin was also selected MVP of the weekend.
- Nevada claimed all weekly Mountain West honors as Afoa was named Offensive Player of the Week, Kaohelaulii Defensive Player of the Week, and McLaughlin Freshman of the Week.
- After dropping their first three matches of the season, Nevada is now on a three-game winning streak.
SCOUTING CAL
- Sophomore Annalea Maeder looks to build upon a fantastic freshman campaign in which she took over the role of the Bears' starting setter. Maeder was the 2021 team leader in assists (701) and double doubles (8) also posted 205 digs and 30 kills on the year, as well as 29 total blocks.
- In their last match, a four-set victory over Northern Arizona, Maeder posted a new career high of 52 assists and tied her career high of 14 digs. It was her second double-double of the season. Four different Bears – Lydia Grote (17), Leah Schmidt (15), Mikayla Hayden (11) and Sam Taumoepeau (11) added double-digit kills.
SCOUTING UTAH TECH
- In their last match, a victory over Cal State Fullerton, Casey Daugherty led the Trailblazers with 14 kills from 33 attacks with just two errors for a .333 percentage. Howard also had double digit kills with 11 from 30 attacks and ended with a .230 percentage. Hardy also put up impressive offensive numbers with six kills from 14 attacks with no errors for a .433 percentage on the night.
- Taela Laufiso had 35 assists on the night just one shy of tying her career high.
- In total, Utah Tech ended the match with 43 kills from 113 attacks with 11 errors for a .233 percentage on the game, the best of the season thus far.

th game versus former OVC foe Belmont. Bethune-Cookman and Alcorn State will also take part in invite.
