Women's Basketball Falls to Little Rock in Defensive Battle

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Erica Haynes-Overton scored 15 points and Kianni Westbrook had 11 more, but the Lady Tigers fell to the Little Rock Trojans 42-36 on the road Saturday.

Haynes-Overton led the Lady Tigers (7-12, 2-6) with 15 points. Westbrook tacked on 11 points, nine rebounds and three blocks and Kennedy Davis helped out with four points off the bench.

The Tennessee State defense held Little Rock shooters to just 28.3 percent from the field, including 16.7 percent from three-point range.

How It Happened

Tennessee State started off strong, putting together a 6-4 lead heading into the second quarter. Tennessee State did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring six of its six points close to the basket.

The Lady Tigers could not maintain their lead in the second quarter and entered halftime trailing 17-13.

Little Rock continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 24-15 advantage before Tennessee State went on a 6-0 run to trim its deficit to 24-21 with 4:21 to go in the third. The Lady Tigers continued to reduce the Little Rock lead, shrinking it to 31-30 by the end of the third quarter. Tennessee State played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 17 points in the paint.

Tennessee State could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 42-36. Tennessee State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring six of its six points in the paint.
