Football Set to Host Tennessee Tech in Season Finale

NASHVILLE — With a secured winning season, the Tennessee State football team aims to defend its undefeated 4-0 home record and even out its Big South-OVC record as they host Tennessee Tech to close out the 2023 season.

SERIES INFORMATION: The Tigers are 22-14 against Tennessee Tech all-time. TSU and TTU first met in 1984 and have played every year since 1988. TSU won the first six matchups from 1984, 1985, and 1988-1991. TSU has won the last two games, giving head coach Eddie George a 2-0 mark against the Eagles. TSU won last year's contest in Cookeville 30-14.

101: The number of combined games that James and Josh Green have played in. Josh has seen playing time in 52 games while James has seen action in 49 contests. Both brothers are set to hit the 50 career games played threshold with one contest remaining.

1,024: The number of receiving yards that Dayron Johnson now has in his career. The fifth-year Tiger crossed the 1,000-yard mark after fishing with 36 yards on four grabs against EIU. He is having his most productive season at TSU as he leads the team with 37 catches along with 332 yards. The Springhill native has 86 career receptions and four scores.

22: The number of seniors that will be honored on Saturday for senior day.

4: The number of passing yards that Draylen Ellis needs to reach 1,000 yards passing for the season. The fourth-year QB has thrown for 1,000+ yards in three straight seasons and will look to make it four with 72 more yards. He threw for 1,269 as a freshman and 2,625 as a sophomore at APSU, followed by 1,811 last year in his first season as a Tiger.

KARATE KID: Karate Brenson reeled in a career-high seven catches against EIU last Saturday while finishing with 61 yards and a score. The second-year Tiger caught a goal-line fade midway through the second quarter to tie the game at 14. The TD grab marked his second of the season with the first coming on the road at Kennesaw State. The former Ball State receiver has hauled in 24 passes for 258 yards this season, which gives him 47 receptions for 562 yards in two seasons.

PLUGGING HOLES: Senior defensive lineman Cameron Stewart saved his best season for his last as the big man in the middle has doubled his productivity from last year. After recording 12 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and 1.5 TFLs last season, Stewart has logged 24 tackles, 5.5 TFLs and 2.0 sacks this year. The Chattanooga native finished with four tackles, 3.0 TFLs, one sack, and a breakup against Eastern Illinois.

STAYING PERFECT: James Lowery pushed his consecutive made field goal streak to 11 after connecting on a 43-yard kick against EIU, which has been going since TSU's second game against UAPB. The Florida native has been perfect from long range during that streak, connecting on four field goals from 40-49 yards and two from 50+.

ALONE AT THE TOP: With one game in the regular season remaining, Terrell Allen sits alone at the top for the nation's lead among FSC players for sacks and tackles for loss this season. Allen's 14.5 sacks lead the country, with the next closest player having 12.0. He has a 4.5 lead in the TFL category with 24.5.
