NASHVILLE, Tenn.- Today, the Tennessee Sports Writers Association named Tennessee State University sophomore pitcher
Caitlyn Manus as their Softball Pitcher of the Week for her efforts in contests from March 13-19. On Saturday, Manus (10-8, 3-0 OVC) pitched a four-hit shutout to defeat the Southeast Missouri University Redhawks, breaking a 14-game losing streak to the Redhawks. On Wednesday, she suffered a tough-luck loss against the University of Alabama-Birmingham when she only gave up an unearned run in relief.
Manus, a native of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, recorded a 1-1 record for the week and didn't give up an earned run in 11 innings. She has pitched 94.2 innings for the season, completing eight of her 13 starts, with two of those games being shutouts.
Her pitching this season has helped TSU to their first 4-0 start to start the season and 4-0 start in the Ohio Valley Conference.
According to their website, the Tennessee Sports Writers Association is comprised of writers and editors, and college sports information directors who work in sports in the state of Tennessee. This is the first TSWA honor for a TSU athlete this season.
