Softball Heads West to Take on UT-Martin

MARTIN, Tenn.— After going 1-1 this past weekend, the Tennessee State University Tigers softball team (13-12-1, 4-1 OVC) will take a trip west on I-40 to take on the UT-Martin Skyhawks (9-13, 2-3 OVC) in a three-game weekend series. TSU is enjoying its best start in conference games in school history.
 
The Tigers have enjoyed four different four-game unbeaten streaks this season. They started the season sweeping the four-game River City Classic. After tying the University of Incarnate Word on the road, they traveled to Lindenwood and swept them in a three-game series. Last Saturday, TSU defeated the SEMO Redhawks to start the OVC at 4-0. The victory broke a 14-game losing streak to SEMO, and it was the first home win over the Redhawks since April 3, 2005. 
 
.UT-Martin has won 17 straight games in the series and never lost to the Tigers at home. TSU will try to defeat the Skyhawks for the first time since March 23, 2013.

SCOUTING UT-MARTIN
  • Kaci Fuller has been a tough out all season. The junior leads the OVC in batting average (.494), slugging percentage (.840), hits (40), and total bases (68).
  • Junior Anna Hazlewood's 13 walks lead the team. She is second on the team with a .450 on-base percentage.
  • Junior Brooklynn Linneman (4-4) has all five of her team's complete games from the circle.

 
The Tigers will head back on the road as they travel to Birmingham, Alabama, to take on UAB in a midweek game on Wednesday, March 29.
