AUSTIN, TX -- Grad student Nahtali Simpson went 2-for-6 with a double and the Tigers' lone RBI on the day, as TSU went 0-2 on day two of the Texas Longhorn Invitational. Simpson's RBI knocked in junior Laila Armstrong and broke a 14-inning scoring drought for the Tigers. The Tigers only managed six hits, three in each game on the day. Sophomore hurler Sophomore Caitlyn Manus (7-6) started both games in the circle, going 0-2 for Tennessee State (9-9).
Tigers' Bats Go Cold in Shutout Loss to McNeese Stare
The Tennessee State Tigers could not score a run against McNeese State Cowgirl pitcher junior Whitney Tate on Saturday and were shut out 8-0. Sophomore Caitlyn Manus (7-5) got the ball to start for Tennessee State (9-8) and took the loss. Manus went five innings throwing 91 pitches, gave up five runs, and three earned. Freshman Holly Ayala pitched the final two innings giving up three runs, all earned.
Junior Laila Armstrong, sophomore Peyton Fointno, and grad student Nahtali Simpson all led offensively for the Tigers, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Tennessee State managed one chance with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position. The Tigers last got a runner on third in the first when junior Peyton Fointno made it 60 feet away from scoring with one out.
GAME NOTES
» Tennessee State pitchers faced 39 McNeese hitters in the game, allowing nine ground balls and ten fly balls while striking out two.

24th Ranked Louisiana Hold-Off Tigers
Graduate Nahtali Simpson went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI for the Tennessee State Tigers in a 9-1 loss to the No. 24 University of Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns on Saturday. Sophomore Caitlyn Manus (7-6) got the ball to start for Tennessee State (9-9) and took the loss, throwing a complete game. Manus gave up nine runs, seven of which were earned.
Simpson, junior Laila Armstrong, and Ryla Traylor led the way offensively Tigers, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame. Armstrong led off the sixth inning with a double, and Simpson knocked her in from second on a groundout to short. Simpson had a double earlier in the game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Louisiana's Stormy Kotzelnick's homer run in the bottom of the first got her team rolling. The Ragin' Cajuns put up another run in the second, two more in the third and the fifth to make the score 6-0; The Tigers only run on the board in the sixth inning. Armstrong scored the lone run of the inning for Tennessee State to get them on the board. Louisiana put the game away, scoring three more in the bottom of the sixth to put the game away.
