NASHVILLE – As the Tennessee State Tiger softball team gets ready to play in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament for the first time since 2001, the accolades keep rolling in from their banner season. Today, the Tennessee Sports Writers Association (TSWA) named first baseman
Peyton Fointno their Player of the Week and
Caitlyn Manus Pitcher of the Week.
Fointno and Manus' weekend was filled with accolades on and off the field. They both received their undergrad degrees on Saturday morning, with Oprah Winfrey as the commencement speaker. Fointno then went 6-for-7 at the plate with five RBI in three games. Fointno was also just named the OVC Player of the Week on Monday.
For Manus, this is the second time she has received the weekly honor from TSWA. She was in command the whole weekend going 2-0 with two complete games. She struck ten in the Game 1 win on Saturday and scattered three hits. On Sunday, she didn't give up a walk and pitched her way out of a bases-loaded no-out jam to keep her team in the lead. Manus has won 15 games, the second most in program history.
