EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Tennessee State women's basketball team got a 30-point performance from the bench but fell 78-57 to the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles on the road Thursday.
Saniah Parker led the Tigers (4-9, 1-2) with five points, nine rebounds and four steals. Lyric Cole added 10 points and seven rebounds and Zyion Shannon helped out with eight points and two steals from the bench.
Tennessee State forced 19 Southern Indiana turnovers. The Tigers turned those takeaways into 23 points on the offensive end of the floor. Parker's four steals led the way for Tennessee State.
How It Happened
Tennessee State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 31-11 at the end of the first quarter.
The Tigers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 50-24 halftime deficit.
Southern Indiana continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 61-32 advantage before Tennessee State went on a 10-0 run to trim its deficit to 61-42 with 1:17 to go in the third, a score which remained until the end of the third quarter. Tennessee State took advantage of five Southern Indiana turnovers in the quarter, scoring seven points off of takeaways.
Southern Indiana kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 67-46 advantage before Tennessee State went on a 5-0 run to shrink the deficit to 67-51 with 5:43 to go in the contest. Southern Indiana responded and outscored the Tigers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 78-57. Tennessee State took advantage of nine Southern Indiana turnovers in the quarter, scoring 10 points from those takeaways.
