NASHVILLE — The Tennessee State volleyball team fell to the Little Rock Trojans 3-2 (25-13, 23-25, 25-20, 18-25, 12-15) on Friday at Kean Hall.
The loss dropped Tennessee State's record to 5-15 overall and 1-6 in OVC play.
The Tigers were led by a double-double from Jazmin Vergara, who registered 16 kills and 17 digs on the day. Maggie Keenan also added 10 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Hadley Pride chipped in for with 19 digs to go with nine blocks from Storm White.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Tigers took control of the set-one lead at 6-5 and never looked back to win 25-13. Tennessee State led by 13 points at 24-11 before closing out the set. Tennessee State also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Tennessee State then fell in the second set 25-23, evening things at a set each. The Tigers rallied from a seven-point 11-4 hole, but Little Rock hung on to take the set.
SET 3 | Tennessee State fought back following the second-set loss to take the third set and a 2-1 lead in the match. The Tigers the set set three 25-20. Tennessee State took the lead for good at 20-19 in a set that featured 11 ties and five lead changes. Tennessee State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking seven Little Rock attacks in the stanza.
SET 4 | Tennessee State couldn't finish off a four-set win as the Trojans forced a fifth set with a 25-18 victory. The Tigers trailed by as many as seven points as Little Rock grabbed the advantage for good at 4-3 and Tennessee State wasn't able to recover in a set that was tied up six times before the Trojans took over.
SET 5 | Tennessee State and Little Rock went back and forth all game, trading wins in the first three sets until the Trojans took the last two sets, including winning the fifth set 15-12, and the match. The Tigers lost the first point and never clawed back into the lead.
