Vergara and Tan’s Double-Doubles Fall Short in Volleyball Loss to Little Rock

NASHVILLE — Jazmin Vergara and Ozge Tan both registered double-doubles, but the Tennessee State volleyball team fell to Little Rock, 3-2 (29-27, 25-22, 17-25, 16-25, 13-15) on Saturday at Kean Hall Gymnasium.

The loss dropped Tennessee State's record to 5-16 overall and 1-7 in OVC play.

The Lady Tigers were led by double-doubles from both Tan, who had 10 kills and 19 digs, and Vergara, who had 18 kills and 18 digs. Jayla Holcombe also added 17 kills to help the offense. On the defensive end, Hadley Pride chipped in for with 25 digs to go with five blocks from Sagaia Reilly.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Tigers came out on top of a close first set, winning 29-27 in a stanza that was tied nine times and had three lead changes. The Tigers opening set win came in a stanza where 19 of their 29 points came via the kill. got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked six Little Rock attacks in the stanza.

SET 2 | Tennessee State took set two 25-22 to promptly grab a 2-0 lead. The Tigers persevered in a back-and-forth set to win in a stanza that featured two lead changes and was tied nine times. Neither team led by more than four points along the way.

SET 3 | Tennessee State couldn't end the match in a sweep, dropping the third set to make their lead two sets to one in the match. The Tigers fell in a tough set 25-17. Tennessee State trailed by as many as nine points as Little Rock grabbed the advantage for good at 2-1 in a set that was knotted up three times before the Trojans took over the lead.

SET 4 | Tennessee State then dropped their second straight set 25-16 to brind the match level at two sets apiece.
