CHARLESTON, Ill. — The Tennessee State volleyball team racked up 14 blocks en route to a three-set win (25-20, 25-22, 25-21) against Eastern Illinois on Tuesday.
The win boosted the Lady Tigers' record to 10-20 overall and 6-11 in OVC play.
Jayla Holcombe finished with 12 kills on the day to lead the Lady Tigers offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .381. got 20 digs from Hadley Pride along with seven blocks from Maggie Keenan and five rejections from Storm White to lead them defensively.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Tigers grabbed control of the set-one lead at 2-1 and never looked back to win 25-20. Tennessee State led by as many as five points at 6-1 before finishing off the set. got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked five Eastern Illinois attacks in the stanza.
SET 2 | Tennessee State continued to roll after a set-one win by earning a 25-22 victory in set number two. The Lady Tigers rallied after being down as many as seven points at 14-7 to win the set. Tennessee State grabbed the lead at 16-15 and hung on for the victory. The Tennessee State offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza. Tennessee State's front row had a standout defensive performance, blocking eight Eastern Illinois attacks in the stanza and capitalizing on 12 Eastern Illinois attacking errors on the way to victory.
SET 3 | Tennessee State then capped the three-set sweep with a victory in set number three. The Lady Tigers the set set three 25-21. Tennessee State took the lead for good at 16-15 in a set that showcased four lead changes before the Lady Tigers took over in the second half of the stanza.
