CHARLESTON, Ill.— The Tennessee State volleyball team fell to Eastern Illinois 3-1 (23-25, 21-25, 25-21, 15-25) on Wednesday in the regular season finale.
The Tigers enter the upcoming OVC Tournament as the eighth seed and will face event host and top seed SEMO on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 4 p.m. on ESPN+.
The loss dropped Tennessee State's record to 10-21 overall and 6-12 in OVC play.
The Tigers were led by a double-double from Celestial Miller, who registered 12 kills and 10 digs on the day. Jayla Holcombe also added nine kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Hadley Pride chipped in for with 23 digs to go with three blocks from Storm White.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Tigers found themselves in an early deficit, losing a nail-biter first set 25-23. Eastern Illinois grabbed the advantage for good at 24-23 in a set that was tied up 10 times before the Panthers took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 2 | Tennessee State fell in the second set 25-21, digging a 2-0 deficit in the match. Eastern Illinois grabbed the advantage for good at 7-6 in a set that was tied up three times before the Panthers took over the lead.
SET 3 | After dropping the first two sets, Tennessee State fought back to win the third set and make it a 2-1 match. The Lady Tigers the set the third set 25-21. Tennessee State took the lead for good at 13-12 in a set that featured eight ties and five lead changes.
SET 4 | Tennessee State couldn't keep the momentum and fell in the fourth set 25-15 to drop the match. The Lady Tigers lost the first point and never clawed back into the lead before losing the set.
