DENTON, TEXAS — Saniah Parker and Angel Hill combined to score 40 total points - 61.5 percent of Tennessee State's points - but the Tennessee State women's basketball team fell to North Texas 83-65 on Wednesday afternoon.
The Tigers (4-5) had three players score in double figures, led by Parker, who had 22 points. Hill added 18 points from the bench and Sanaa' St. Andre helped out with 10 points, four assists and two steals.
Tennessee State forced 23 North Texas turnovers while committing 17 themselves in Wednesday's game. The Tigers turned those takeaways into 20 points on the offensive end of the floor. Lyric Cole led the way individually with two steals.
How It Happened
Tennessee State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 24-7 at the end of the first quarter.
The Tigers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 46-20 halftime deficit.
Following halftime, Tennessee State kept the Eagles from growing their lead before going on a 9-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Parker, to trim its deficit to 54-37 with 4:07 to go in the third. North Texas countered and stretched its lead to 62-44 heading into the fourth. Tennessee State took advantage of 10 North Texas turnovers in the quarter, scoring eight points off of takeaways.
North Texas kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 70-50 advantage before Tennessee State went on an 8-0 run, finished off by Hill's three, to shrink the deficit to 70-58 with 5:38 to go in the contest. North Texas responded and outscored the Tigers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 83-65. Tennessee State took advantage of four North Texas turnovers in the quarter, scoring seven points off of those takeaways.
