Spencer Homers in Softball's Loss to Lamar

LAKE CHARLES, La. - Sophomore Onnika Spencer went 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI for Tennessee State in a 7-1 loss to Lamar on Sunday. It was the final game of the Cowgirl Classic for the Tigers. 

Sophomore Holly Ayala (0-0) started and took the loss in the circle for Tennessee State (1-4).

In the batter's box, the Tigers were paced by Spencer, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run and an RBI. Laila Armstrong and Peyton Fointno were the other two TSU players to pick up hits. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Tigers were trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning when they first put runs on the board. Spencer put Tennessee State on the board with a two-out solo home run off for her first of the season. The Tigers were unable to get any closer, as Lamar added five runs to their tally on the way to a 7-1 final.

» Tennessee State's highest-scoring inning was the fourth, when it pushed one run across.
» Tennessee State pitchers faced 37 Lamar hitters in the game, allowing nine ground balls and eight fly balls while striking out three.
» Spencer led the Tigers at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI.

Next Up

TSU will be back in action next weekend as they are set to host the Roar City Invitational. The Tigers will play two games on Friday, two on Saturday, and one on Sunday.
