SAINT CHARLES, MO --Saniah Parker, Aaniya Webb and Angel Hill combined to score 42 of Tennessee State's 54 total points, but women's basketballĀ fell to Lindenwood 68-54 on the road Thursday.
Parker led the Tigers (4-11, 0-5 OVC) with 17 points, five assists and seven steals. Webb added 15 points, five steals and two blocks and Hill chipped in as well with 10 points off of the bench.
Led by Kiki Roberts' five offensive rebounds, Tennessee State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 13 boards that resulted in 10 second chance points.
Tennessee State did a great job disrupting LindenwoodĀ shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Webb's two rejections led the way individually for the Tigers.
How It Happened
Tennessee State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 23-12 at the end of the first quarter.
The Tigers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 37-18 halftime deficit.
After intermission, Tennessee State cut its deficit to 45-29 before going on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a three from Xaionna Whitfield, to trim its deficit to 45-34 with 3:16 to go in the third. LindenwoodĀ countered and stretched its lead to 53-37 heading into the fourth. Tennessee State took advantage of five LindenwoodĀ turnovers in the quarter, scoring seven points off of takeaways.
Lindenwood kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 68-47 advantage before Tennessee State went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Webb's layup, to shrink the deficit to 68-54 with 1:04 to go in the contest, a score which would hold for the rest of the game. Tennessee State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring 10 of its 17 points in the paint.
