NASHVILLE — The Tennessee State women's tennis team battled hard against in-state foe Vanderbilt but ultimately fell 4-0 in a competitive matchup.
In doubles play, TSU fought to gain early momentum but faced a tough Vanderbilt lineup. The duo of Aroa Arrieta Castillo and Jovana Nikolic fell 6-0 to Vanderbilt's Valeria Ray and Trinetra Vijayakumar. Sydney Brantley and Louise Ratiu also faced a tough test, dropping their match 6-1, while Francisca Gomez-Weiss and Natalie Walsh put up a strong fight before falling 6-4.
The singles competition saw moments of promise for the Tigers. Louise Ratiu took on nationally ranked No. 84 Valeria Ray but came up short in a 6-1, 6-0 contest. Gomez-Weiss and Castillo both fought through challenging matches, but Vanderbilt secured the clinching points with decisive victories. Meanwhile, Brantley and Walsh were in the midst of competitive battles before play was halted.
