NASHVILLE – Tennessee State guards Brandon Weston and Aaron Nkrumah have been named to All-Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) teams, the league office announced Tuesday.
Weston capped off a standout season by earning a spot on both the All-OVC First Team and the OVC Newcomer Team. The 6-foot-5 guard made an immediate impact in his first season with the Tigers, leading the team in scoring with 16.0 points per game while shooting 44.4% from the field and an impressive 84.2% from the free-throw line.
Weston's consistency and ability to deliver in crucial moments made him one of the most dynamic players in the conference. He recorded five 20-plus-point games, including a season-high 33 points against Southern Indiana on Dec. 19. His all-around contributions extended beyond scoring, as he averaged 4.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.
One of his most efficient performances came against Johnson University on Dec. 14, when he shot 10-of-13 from the field while adding five rebounds and three assists. Weston also displayed his clutch ability at the free-throw line, going 12-for-12 against Western Kentucky and 14-for-15 against Southern Indiana.
Weston's impact in OVC play was undeniable. He scored 20 or more points in five conference games, including back-to-back performances against UT Martin (Jan. 21) and Tennessee Tech (Jan. 23). In the OVC opener against Southeast Missouri (Jan. 2), Weston knocked down six free throws on his way to a solid 10-point outing.
One of his best performances came against Eastern Illinois (Jan. 18), where he scored 20 points on 12-of-13 free-throw shooting, displaying his ability to get to the line and convert efficiently. Against Little Rock (Jan. 4), he delivered a well-rounded game with 15 points and 10 rebounds, recording a key double-double to lead TSU to victory.
Weston was also instrumental in Tennessee State's road battles, scoring 21 points at Tennessee Tech (Jan. 23) and 14 points at Lindenwood (Jan. 9). His defensive presence was evident as well, tallying multiple steals in six different OVC games, including a season-high four steals against UT Martin.
Nkrumah, an All-OVC Second Team honoree, showcased his versatility and two-way impact. The 6-foot-4 junior was a key contributor for the Tigers, averaging 10.9 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game, while playing nearly 30 minutes per contest.
Nkrumah particularly excelled in OVC matchups, stepping up in key moments. He had multiple standout performances in conference play, highlighted by a career-high 26 points at Southeast Missouri (Feb. 1), where he dominated at the free-throw line, hitting 13-of-14 attempts (92.9%). His ability to draw fouls and convert at the line was a significant factor in several close games, as he shot 71.8% from the stripe for the season.
One of his most well-rounded performances came against Lindenwood (Feb. 8), where he tallied 18 points, 12 rebounds, and five assists, securing a double-double and showcasing his ability to impact the game on both ends. He also recorded 14 points and eight rebounds against Western Illinois (Feb. 6), demonstrating his rebounding prowess against tough competition.
Nkrumah's defensive presence was a key asset for the Tigers. He registered multiple steals in 11 different OVC games, including an OVC season-high six steals at UT Martin (Feb. 18), disrupting the opposition's offense. He was also a consistent playmaker, recording at least five assists in six different conference games, including a seven-assist effort against Tennessee Tech (Jan. 23).
