NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State men's tennis team secured a much-needed 4-3 victory over Xavier (LA) on Saturday at Hadley Park. The Tigers started strong with a dominant doubles performance and carried their momentum into singles play to earn their first home win of the season.
TSU took control early by claiming the doubles point. The No. 3 duo of Alexander Adamec and Jonasz Dziopak secured the first win of the match with a 6-3 victory over Tomas Giangrasso and Pedro Maggi.
At No. 1 doubles, Tatenda Mutetwa and Rohan Loubser delivered another commanding performance, taking down Nereo Suarez and Gabriel Velez 6-2, officially clinching the doubles point for TSU.
The No. 2 doubles match featuring Taj Hibbert and James Adler Germinal against Jacobi Bain and Ivan Vazquez went unfinished, as the Tigers had already secured the point.
TSU kept the momentum going in singles, as Jonasz Dziopak continued his stellar play at No. 1, dominating Nereo Suarez 6-3, 6-2 to extend the Tigers' lead.
At No. 2 singles, Taj Hibbert followed with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Artur Yakubov, bringing TSU within one victory of clinching the match.
Xavier (LA) responded with key wins at No. 3, 4, and 5 singles. Jacobi Bain edged out James Adler Germinal in a three-set battle, 2-6, 6-2, 6-2, while Ivan Vazquez defeated Tatenda Mutetwa 6-4, 6-2 at No. 4. At No. 5, Tomas Giangrasso narrowly defeated Rohan Loubser in a tiebreaker, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5).
With the match tied at 3-3, the decisive win came from Nicholas Adamec at No. 6 singles, who dominated Gabriel Velez 6-3, 6-2, clinching the victory for the Tigers.
