Softball Falls in Doubleheader to Eastern Illinois

NASHVILLE — Eastern Illinois completed the three game sweep of the Tennessee State softball team on Saturday with 5-1 and 8-1 victories on Saturday afternoon. 

GAME 2 | Eastern Illinois 5, Tennessee State 1

The Tigers struggled on in the first game of the day, falling to the Panthers 5-1 despite the efforts of Alexis Woods, who went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Tianna Salcido (4-7) started and took the loss in the circle for Tennessee State (20-16, 10-9 OVC). Olivia Calderone started the ballgame and went 2.2 shutout innings while allowing one hit, walking two and striking out one.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Tigers put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Tennessee State got on the board thanks to Woods' RBI double with two outs. The Tigers were unable to hold the lead, as Eastern Illinois scored five times over the remaining five innings to grab the 5-1 win.

Kailyn Jean-Baptiste went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Tennessee State Tigers in an 8-1 loss to the Eastern Illinois Panthers on Saturday.

Reina Castillo (14-6) got the ball to start for Tennessee State (20-17, 10-10 OVC) and took the loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Tigers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the fourth inning. Tennessee State got an RBI single from Jean-Baptiste, scoring Olivia Calderone from second base. The Tigers were unable to hold the lead, as Eastern Illinois scored eight times over the remaining three innings to grab the 8-1 win.
