Softball Battles Through Saturday Doubleheader Against Butler

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee State Tigers showed resilience and flashes of offensive momentum throughout a doubleheader against the Butler Bulldogs on Friday at Tiger Field, battling through adversity and closing the day with a late comeback effort in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1

Butler opened the scoring early, capitalizing on traffic on the bases in the first and second innings to build an early lead. Tennessee State worked to settle in defensively and looked to generate momentum at the plate, highlighted by extra-base hits from Alexis Woods and Kailyn Jean-Baptiste.

The Tigers put runners on in multiple innings, including a double by Jean-Baptiste in the fourth and a fifth-inning single from Mariyah Brown, but Butler's pitching limited sustained rallies. Tennessee State continued to battle through six innings, gaining valuable reps in the circle and defensively as the season progressed.

Game 2

Tennessee State responded with a strong showing in the second contest, erasing an early Butler advantage with a four-run fifth inning that showcased aggressive baserunning and capitalized on defensive miscues.

After Butler took a 6–0 lead through four innings, the Tigers stormed back. JaKeyla McDaniel sparked the rally by stealing home, followed by a two-run reach by Jasmine Blackburn that brought Tennessee State within striking distance. The Tigers added two more runs in the sixth inning, with Alexis Woods delivering a bunt RBI single and Hailey Hunt driving in a run to even the game at 6–6.

Tennessee State held Butler scoreless in the seventh to force extra innings, but the Bulldogs pushed across four runs in the eighth. The Tigers continued to fight until the final out, showing growth and determination against a tested opponent.
