Second Half Surge Not Enough as Women's Basketball Drops to Lindenwood

NASHVILLE — Kiki Roberts pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds and Erin Martin added 10 more, but the Tennessee State women's basketball team came up just short in a 75–70 loss to Lindenwood (MO) Thursday night at the Gentry Center.

The Lady Tigers (4–22, 3–14 OVC) placed three players in double figures, led by Martin, who recorded a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds while anchoring the paint on both ends. Aaniya Webb finished with 13 points and two blocks, and Genesis Harris chipped in 10 points to round out the scoring leaders.

Tennessee State controlled the glass throughout the night, owning a 38–30 rebounding advantage. The Lady Tigers were especially effective on the offensive boards, collecting 13 offensive rebounds that led to eight second-chance points. Martin was instrumental in that effort, grabbing five offensive rebounds to create extra possessions.

How It Happened

After the game opened with an early 4–4 tie, Tennessee State used a 5–0 run midway through the first quarter — capped by a basket from Roberts — to take a 9–4 lead with 6:26 remaining. Lindenwood answered, however, and the Lady Tigers entered the second quarter trailing 19–15.

The Lions extended their advantage to nine points in the second period, but Tennessee State responded with a 5–0 run highlighted by a Somah Kamara bucket to cut the deficit to 34–30 heading into halftime.

Out of the break, the Lady Tigers surged back to even the score at 47–47 before stringing together a 6–0 run, punctuated by another Roberts basket, to grab a 53–47 lead with 3:43 left in the third quarter. Lindenwood countered late in the period to regain a slim 57–56 edge entering the fourth.

Tennessee State continued to attack inside, scoring 18 of its 26 points in the paint over the middle quarters, but was unable to close the gap in the final frame. The Lady Tigers knocked down two three-pointers in the fourth, accounting for six of their 14 points, but ultimately fell by five.
