When is the first season?

  • The Team will play its first season as an NCAA Division I Independent starting in 2026-27.

Where will the team play home games?

  • TSU will collaborate with the Nashville Predators and the city of Nashville to secure a home ice facility for the team.

How can people donate to the program?

  • Donors and those who wish to contribute visit TSUTigers.com/Hockey/Donate to contribute and be a part of breaking the barrier in college hockey.
  • We will also actively seek private and corporate partnerships to support the team.

Are there plans to build a hockey facility at TSU?

  • The university is currently exploring different scenarios through its master plan to support the growth of hockey on campus, as well as other varsity programs and potential new teams in the future.

In what ways will the NHL, Nashville Predators, and College Hockey Inc. be involved in TSU Hockey?

  • Our partnership with the NHL, Nashville Predators, and College Hockey Inc. is crucial for the success of TSU hockey.
  • College Hockey Inc. conducted a feasibility study in 2021 that highlighted the importance of introducing ice hockey at an HBCU for the growth of diversity and inclusion in sports.
  • The Nashville Predators organization has maintained a strong relationship with TSU and began the partnership by joining the University in its February 2020 ‘One Million in One Month’ fundraising campaign as a major contributor. The Nashville-based NHL team has continued to donate to the TSU’s scholarship programs and provide internship and job opportunities through the TSU Career Development Center. 
  • Under the leadership of NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman, Executive Vice President Kim Davis, and Kevin Westgarth, VP of Hockey Development & Strategic Collaboration, TSU had the privilege of hosting the Black Hockey History Tour Bus in February 2022 on the eve of the outdoor game at Nissan Stadium. This marked the first step in bringing hockey to our campus.
