--- The Tennessee State University volleyball team fell to Murray State
3-0 Saturday afternoon at Racer Arena.
The set scores were 25-16, 25-23, 25-15.
Tennessee
State (3-18, 2-7 OVC) hit
.171 in the contest and tallied 35 kills as a team. Murray State
(5-15, 5-5 OVC) registered 40 kills on a .356 attack percentage. The Tigers
only recorded 32 digs compared to the Racers' 43.
TSU notched five team blocks while MSU tallied four but the
Tigers committed 17 errors and the Racers had nine.
Junior Vicmari Prospero and freshman Naomi Wells led the
Tigers with nine kills each while junior Kamille King turned in a team best 12
digs. Yamari Padilla- Collazo dished out 25 set assists.
Sarah Hayden led Murray
State with 10 kills while
Kayleah Sauer turned in a match-high 21 digs.
In the opening frame, Tennessee State
hit a dismal .077 and committed nine attack errors. With the score tied 10-10, Murray State
outscored TSU 15-6 to close out the set.
TSU improved its attack percentage in the second set and hit
.257. After falling behind by five points late in the frame, 23-18, TSU mounted
a comeback that brought the score to 24-23. The Racers, however, were able to
score the next point and keep the Tigers at bay.
In the third set, TSU captured the lead, 5-3, on a kill by
Vicmari Prospero. MSU answered with two points to even the score. After trading
the lead for the next couple of rallies, the Racers used a 7-3 run to open up
the advantage. MSU moved ahead 20-13 and never looked back.
Tennessee State will return to action next Friday and Saturday
with home matches against Southeast Missouri and Eastern
Illinois in Kean Hall. Friday night's match is scheduled for 7
p.m. while Saturday's contest is slated for a 2 p.m. start.
