Nashville --- Three Tiger
volleyball players posted double-digit kills but it wasn't enough as Tennessee State
University fell to Morehead State,
3-1, Saturday afternoon at Wetherby Gym.
The set scores were 16-25, 16-25, 26-24 and 9-25. Tennessee State
falls to 3-22 (2-11 OVC) while Morehead
State improves to 18-8
(10-4 OVC).
For the match Tennessee
State finished with 46
kills and a .125 attack percentage. The Tigers also tallied 44 digs, five
service aces and four team blocks.
Morehead
State recorded an attack
percentage of .357 and had 55 kills. The Eagles tallied 54 digs, six service
aces and 14 team blocks.
Shaquita Williams led Tennessee State
with 12 kills while Naomi Wells added 11. Terakka Walker also tallied 11 kills
to go along with 13 digs for her sixth double-double of the season. With 12,
Kamille King posted double-digits in digs for the sixth consecutive match. Yamari
Padilla - Collazo finished with 41 set assists.
Emma Keough led Morehead with 14 kills while Annie
Gruenschlaeger added 13. Katlin Craven also notched double-figures with 10.
Kristina Schoo turned in a match-best 21 digs.
With the score tied 10-10 in the first set, Morehead used a
6-1 run to claim a 16-11 lead. MSU then outscored TSU 9-5 to close out the
frame.
Timely kills by the Eagles coupled with a few Tiger attack
errors led to MSU building up a 19-11 advantage in set two. TSU would not overcome the
deficit.
Fighting to extend the match to a fourth set, Tennessee State went ahead 14-10 after a service
ace by Tanequa Whitman in the third frame. After Morehead tied the score 15-15,
a battle that featured five ties and four lead changes ensued. With the score knotted 24-24, back-to-back kills from
Shaquita Williams gave TSU the extra points win.
The Tigers, however, faltered in the fourth set, falling
behind 15-4. This led to a timeout but the Tigers were not able to recover. TSU
only had five kills and committed eight errors in the frame.
The Tigers hit .097 in set one and an improved .212 in the
second frame. TSU hit a match-best .244 in the third set before recording a
dismal -.097 in the final contest.

on Friday, Nov. 6.
