Nashville
--- In the bottom of the seventh inning, Brittany Webb drove in three runs to
lift the Tennessee State University
softball team past Tennessee Tech 4-3 in a crucial OVC game Thursday evening at
Tiger Field.
Tennessee
State snapped a seven
game losing skid and improved to 18-26 (8-12 OVC) while Tennessee Tech moved to
23-27 (9-10 OVC).
Tech captured the first lead of the game, 1-0, in the top of
the fourth but TSU answered in the bottom half of the frame to even the score
1-1 when Kristin Powell scored on a wild pitch.
Tech reclaimed the advantage in the top of the fifth with
two runs off of three hits and one TSU error.
The Golden Eagles maintained a 3-1 lead until the Tigers
came roaring back in the bottom of the seventh.
Jalisa Bradley christened the inning with a single through
the left side and later advanced to second when Jennifer Culberson singled
through the right side. The next batter, Bridget Metzger singled to third to
load the bases.
Brittany Webb stepped up to the plate with one out and the
bases loaded. Webb came through for the Tigers as she connected on a double to
left center to plate Bradley, Culberson, and Metzger.
Caitlin Eaton (12-12) threw five strikeouts and only allowed
five hits in the win. Brittany Webb was 2-of-3 at the plate with three RBIs
while Tamara Perkins went 1-for-1 with two walks. She also tallied an RBI for
TSU.
TSU will have a break as the Tigers don't return to action
until next weekend, May 2-3, when they host the Redhawks of Southeast Missouri in
a three-game series. Game one of Saturday's doubleheader is slated to begin at
1 p.m. at Tiger Field while Sunday's single game is scheduled to kick-off at 1
p.m.
