Nashville --- The Tennessee State University Lady Tigers picked up their second win of the season with a 53-49 victory over Jackson State Saturday afternoon in the Gentry Center.

Tennessee State improved to 2-2 on the season while Jackson State fell to 0-4.

Freshman Tayla Foster paced the Lady Tiger offense with 14 points while Meredith Stafford added 13. Alana Morris registered a team best seven rebounds and dished out four assists for TSU.  

Takeya Felder led Jackson State with 19 points while Tiffany Kellum notched 13 points and seven boards.

TSU shot 35.6 percent from the field, including a dismal 17.6 shooting percentage  from three point range (3-of-17), but only committed 14 turnovers.

JSU finished the game with a 37.5 field goal shooting percentage, 36.4 percent from beyond the arc, and tallied 22 turnovers.

Tennessee State led by as many as 12 points in the game but Jackson State battled from behind. The game wasn't decided until the final minutes.

A three-pointer gave Jackson State the first points of the contest but Tennessee State would take control of the game. The Lady Tigers scored nine unanswered points to capture a 9-3 lead before a triple from Kesi Hess gave TSU a 17-6 advantage.

JSU used seven straight points to close to within four but three consecutive buckets from Meredith Stafford put TSU back on top, 23-13, with 7:50 left in the half.

Tennessee State led 29-22 at the halftime break.

Jackson State opened up the second half by outscoring Tennessee State, 11-2, and tied the score at 33-all with 14:26 left in the game.

After trading the lead over the next ten minutes, TSU created a little distance, 49-42, when Alana Morris found Tayla Foster in the paint with a little over one minute left in the game.

Two free-throws from Ashley Tate made TSU's lead 51-44 with 42.3 seconds on the clock but a Lady Tiger turnover and a JSU three-pointer, made the score, 51-47, in favor of the home team.

After TSU rebounded JSU's shot attempt on the ensuing possession, Meredith Stafford knocked down two free-throws to ice the game.  The Lady Tigers held on to win, 53-49.

TSU returns to the road on Sunday to travel to Fayetteville, Ark. The Lady Tigers will face their second SEC opponent of the season when they match up against Arkansas on Tuesday, Nov. 23. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Bud Walton Arena.
