Fayetteville, Ark. --- The Tennessee State University
women's basketball team played hard but fell to SEC member Arkansas, 71-50,
Tuesday night in Bud Walton Arena.
TSU (2-3) gave a great second-half effort but the deficit
was too much to overcome against an undefeated Arkansas (5-0).
Simone Hopes was the only player to score in double-figures
for TSU with a career-high 17 points to go with seven rebounds. Kim Haynes also
tallied seven rebounds and recorded seven points.
Arkansas controlled the tip and the game early, jumping out
to a 14-2 lead before the first media timeout. Kim Haynes finally scored TSU's
first field goal of the game after nailing a three-pointer with 13:16 left on
the clock.
Another bucket from Haynes followed by a triple from Kesi
Hess made the score, 20-10, in favor of the Razorbacks with 9:22 left in the
half.
Arkansas built the lead back up to 31-16 before carrying a
35-22 advantage into the halftime break.
In the second half, Jasmin Shuler knocked down a
three-pointer to bring TSU back within 10 points at the 18:46 mark. TSU was
trailing 37-25 when Arkansas used a 13-6 run to increase the lead to 50-31.
The Lady Tigers fell behind 69-39 before outscoring the
Razorbacks 12-1 to make the final score 70-51.
Tennessee State shot 31.3 percent from the field (4-of-14)
and only connected on 28.6 percent (4-of-14) from three-point range.
Following a brief break for the Thanksgiving holiday the
Lady Tigers will return to action on Saturday, Nov. 27 at Lipscomb. Game time is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in Allen Arena.
