Softball shut-out in season finale

Jacksonville, Ala. --- The Tennessee State University softball team suffered a 13-0 loss to Jacksonville State in the final game of the season Sunday afternoon at University Field.

TSU (11-34, 6-16 OVC) hit .222 and tallied four hits in the contest while Jacksonville State (27-17, 13-6 OVC) turned in a .350 batting average and had seven hits.

Bridget Metzger christened the first inning with a single to left field to get a runner on base for TSU. The next three batters, however, went down in order to leave Metzger stranded on base.

The Gamecocks posted a run in their half of the frame before pouring in six runs in the second inning. JSU added six more runs in the fourth to swell the advantage to 13-0.

TSU threatened in the fifth after Tamara Perkins singled to left field and advanced to second on a hit by Katie Jordan. The Tigers, however, were unable to push through for a score.

Caitlin Eaton (2-12) was tagged with the loss while Ashley Eliasson (18-7) earned the win for JSU. Eaton walked three and threw one strike out in eight batters faced. Hannah Schnebly also pitched in the game. She faced 12 batters and allowed four walks.

Eliasson limited the Tigers to only two hits and didn't allow any walks in four innings pitched.

Bridget Metzger went 2-for-3 at the plate for TSU while Tamara Perkins (1-for-2) and Katie Jordan (1-for-2) also recorded hits for the Tigers.
