Jacksonville, Ala. --- The Tennessee State University
softball team suffered a 13-0 loss to Jacksonville State in the final game of
the season Sunday afternoon at University Field.
TSU (11-34, 6-16 OVC) hit .222 and tallied four hits in the
contest while Jacksonville State (27-17, 13-6 OVC) turned in a .350 batting average and had seven
hits.
Bridget Metzger christened the first inning with a single to
left field to get a runner on base for TSU. The next three batters, however,
went down in order to leave Metzger stranded on base.
The Gamecocks posted a run in their half of the frame before
pouring in six runs in the second inning. JSU added six more runs in the fourth
to swell the advantage to 13-0.
TSU threatened in the fifth after Tamara Perkins singled to
left field and advanced to second on a hit by Katie Jordan. The Tigers,
however, were unable to push through for a score.
Caitlin Eaton (2-12) was tagged with the loss while Ashley
Eliasson (18-7) earned the win for JSU. Eaton walked three and threw one strike
out in eight batters faced. Hannah Schnebly also pitched in the game. She faced
12 batters and allowed four walks.
Eliasson limited the Tigers to only two hits and didn't
allow any walks in four innings pitched.
Bridget Metzger went 2-for-3 at the plate for TSU while
Tamara Perkins (1-for-2) and Katie Jordan (1-for-2) also recorded hits for the
Tigers.
