Morehead, Ky. --- The Tennessee State University softball
team dropped an, 11-3, decision to Morehead State in the series finale Sunday
afternoon at University Field.
Brittany Webb went 2-for-3 at the plate with one RBI while
Tedra Alford was also 2-for-3. Ashley Haynes (1-for-2) hit a homerun for her first long ball of the season.
Susie Burke got the start in the circle and picked up the
loss while Kelly Troglin also saw action in the circle.
Burke struggled early as the Eagles posted six runs off six
hits in the first inning. Troglin entered to pitch in the second frame before
MSU added three more runs to go ahead, 9-0.
TSU got on the board in the top of the third when Ashley
Haynes hit a solo homerun. In the bottom half of the inning, MSU responded with
a run of its own to make the score, 10-1, before TSU scored again in the top of
the fifth.
Shanika Johnson led the inning off with a single and
advanced to second when Ashley Haynes reached on an error. TSU loaded the bases
when Tedra Alford singled to right field.
Later, Brittany Webb singled to score Johnson before Haynes
scored on a throwing error by the catcher.
In the bottom of the frame, the Eagles scored another run to
make the final score, 11-3.
Tennessee State finished the game with eight hits and one
error while Morehead State notched 15 hits and committed three miscues.
The Tigers return to action on Friday, April 22 when they
host SIU Edwardsville in a doubleheader. Game one is slated for a 4 p.m. start
with game two following shortly after at Tiger Field.
