Bowling Green, Ky. --- The Tennessee State University volleyball team fell to Western Kentucky in three sets on the road Tuesday night in E.A. Diddle Arena.

Tennessee State moved to 4-3 on the season while Western Kentucky improved to 10-1. The set scores were 20-25, 27-29 and 20-25.

Senior Shaquita Williams had a stellar offensive night for the Tigers as she registered 13 kills on 26 attempts. She did not commit any errors and had a sizzling .500 hitting percentage.

Erika Moss dished out 30 assists for TSU while Britani Hathorn led the team with 12 digs.

The first set was a battle throughout as the teams played to a 12-12 tie and then again to a 16-16 deadlock.  With WKU holding on to a slight, 17-16 lead, the Hilltoppers outscored the Tigers, 5-3, to go ahead, 22-19.  This led to a TSU timeout. The Tigers, however, were unable to overcome the deficit in the eventual 25-20 loss.

The second set was a closely contested see-saw battle that took extra points to decide. WKU grabbed a 26-25 lead on a TSU service error but a Hilltopper error evened the score at 26-all. 

WKU posted the next point but then committed another error to pull TSU even. With the score knotted at 27-apeice, a kill followed by a service ace helped WKU squeeze out the win.

In the third set, TSU fell behind 14-8 before using a timeout. Following the break the Tigers pulled to within three, 15-12, behind a kill by Rebecca Moudree. TSU narrowed the gap down to just two points following a Hilltopper error but that would be as close as the Tigers would get. WKU went on to win the set, 25-20.

As a team Tennessee State hit. 266 while Western Kentucky notched a .330 hitting percentage. WKU also held the advantage in digs, 50-43, and team blocks, 4-2.

The Tigers continue road action this weekend when they begin OVC play at Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky this weekend.
