Richmond, Ky. --- Senior Shaquita Williams fired off 24 kills to lead Tennessee State University and help the Tigers pull off a come from behind victory over Eastern Kentucky Saturday afternoon on the road.

Tennessee State improved to 5-4 (1-1 OVC) while Eastern Kentucky fell to 6-7 (1-1 OVC). TSU dropped the first two sets (20-25, 20-25) before rallying to win three straight (25-20, 25-16, 15-12).

Shaquita Williams posted a season-high 24 kills behind a blistering .526 hitting percentage. She also had 27 points and three blocks in the match. Terakka Walker recorded her third double-double of the season with 13 kills and 15 digs. Danielle Howell  had five blocks, 13 kills and hit .435 for TSU.

Ashley Edmond led Eastern Kentucky with 21 kills while Alexis Plagens added 10. Dena Ott led the Colonels with 16 digs.

TSU fell behind, 16-9, in the first set but battled back to within two, 20-18, following a kill from Danielle Howell. This led to an EKU timeout. Following the break the Colonels posted three straight points to make their lead, 23-18 before going on to win, 25-20.

The score was tied, 3-3, when EKU outscored TSU 4-1 to go ahead, 7-4 in the second set. A kill by Danielle Howell pulled the Tigers to within two, 8-6, but the Colonels used another run to open the lead up to, 16-8. Back-to-back errors by EKU coupled with kills from Shaquita Williams and Terakka Walker cut the Tiger deficit down to, 16-12, but TSU could not get over the hump as EKU went on to win, 25-20.

In the third set, TSU improved its level of play, hitting .438 and only committing five attack errors.  A kill by Terakka Walker put TSU on top, 18-14. Another couple of kills from Shaquita Williams made TSU's lead, 20-15 before the Tigers went on to win, 25-20.

Tennessee State carried the momentum into the fourth set as the Tigers jumped out to a 7-2 lead following a kill by Rebecca Moudree. The Tigers continued to roll and extended the lead to 15-8 after EKU committed three straight errors. TSU maintained a comfortable lead on the way to the, 25-16, win.

In the fifth and deciding set, EKU posted the first point of the frame but it would be TSU that would assume control. With the set tied 1-1, TSU outscored EKU 9-5 to go ahead, 10-6. TSU was leading, 13-11 when consecutive kills by Shaquita Williams sealed the win and completed the comeback for the Tigers.

Tennessee State finished the match with 63 kills and a .252 hitting percentage while Eastern Kentucky tallied 55 kills and hit .183.  TSU also held the advantage in digs, 55-49 and service aces, 4-2.

The Tigers will get a chance to play on their home court when they host SIU Edwardsville in Kean Hall, Friday, Sept.23. Match time is slated for 7 p.m. in the home opener.
