NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State collected 17 hits on Tuesday evening, but was unable to gain a win against Maine in a double header at Tiger Field. The Black Bears spoiled TSU's return home with a 6-1 win in the opener and a 9-3 decision in the night cap.
Eight Tigers registered a base knock in game two, as they out hit Maine 10-9. The Black Bears took advantage of their hits scoring three runs in the first and fourth innings, for a 6-0 advantage. The Tigers fought back with two runs in the fifth, only to see Maine score two in their next at bat.
Patton Akers and Katie Schneider recorded two hits apiece, while Bri Vire and Reese Weber drove in runs.
Schneider (0-5) was tagged with the loss, surrendering six runs, five earned, on six hits and two walks in 3.2 innings. The sophomore hurler fanned two in the start.
In the opener, Weber and Vire teamed up to score a run to even the score 1-1 in the third inning. Vire earned a one-out triple setting the table for a Weber single to get the Tigers on the board.
Maine responded with three runs in the fourth and added two insurance runs in the sixth. The Black Bears touched Tiger starter Raven Loveless for six runs, four earned, on 11 hits dropping the freshman pitcher to 4-3 on the season.
Vire led the Big Blue with two hits in game one and was joined in the hit column by Weber, Megan Huppee, Erica O'Kane, Sarah Snell and Emma Colegrove.
