GAMEDAY
The Tennessee State University women's basketball team will return to action on Wednesday, Dec. 2 when the Lady Tigers face Georgia State in the home opener. Game time is set for 5 p.m. in the Gentry Center. 
 
THE LADY TIGERS AT A GLANCE
Tennessee State is coming off an 81-61, loss to Mercer in the season opener on Nov. 28. The Lady Tigers were in a two-possession game in the fourth quarter but saw the game slip away down the stretch to a team selected to win the SoCon.
 
After one game, senior Andreana Wrister leads TSU in scoring while Taylor Roberts and Jaden Wrightsell are also leading the way.
 
TSU (0-1) returns six letterwinners from last season including three starters. Last season, Roberts scored 11.9 points per game while shooting 87.3 percent from the free-throw line. Wrightsell finished the season averaging 10.4 points per game, 7.9 rebound per game and an OVC best 2.4 steals per outing.
 
TSU added seven newcomers to the roster, including six freshmen and one junior college transfer.
 
The Lady Tigers are lead by first year head coach Ty Evans. 

LAST TIME OUT
Tennessee State played hard but ultimately fell to Mercer in the first game of the season, 81-61. It was a two-possession game with a little less than five minutes remaining but the Lady Tigers saw the game slip away down the stretch. Andreana Wrister finished the game with a career-high 17 points and five rebounds while Taylor Roberts added 15. Jaden Wrightsell came close to posting a double-double with 12 points and 8 rebounds. 
 
ABOUT THE OPPONENT
Georgia State is coming off a, 68-32, loss to Georgia Tech. The Panthers were one of the youngest teams in D-I last season with six freshmen averaging at least 10 minutes per game. All six freshmen return this season. GSU has four newcomers this season. Taniyah Worth (Alabama) and Hannah Sadler (Old Dominion) both sat out last year due to transfer rules. Elexus Bell came to GSU from Southern Union State CC in Alabama and Ciara Smith is the lone freshman on the squad. Taylor Hosendove led the team in scoring and rebounding last season and was named to the 2020-21 Preseason All-Sun Belt Second Team.
 
LAST TIME THEY MET
The last time TSU and GSU met, the Lady Tigers were coached by retired Director of Athletics and three-time OVC Coach of the Year Teresa Phillips. That season (1992-93) TSU went 18-9, 10-6 OVC.
 
SERIES INFORMATION
TSU will face Georgia State for the first time since 1992. TSU leads the series, 3-2. The last time the teams met, TSU claimed an 83-77 overtime victory. GSU's last win was an 85-62 triumph over the Lady Tigers on Dec. 17, 1991.
