NASHVILLE – Tennessee State men's basketball head coach Brian "Penny" Collins was named to the Rising Head Coaches in Division I basketball list by Silver Waves Media.
Collins is in his third year at the helm of the Tigers and has increased his influence as a coach on the court, in the community and across campus.
In year two, Collins doubled TSU's wins, more than tripled home attendance, tied the record for single-season home victories, highlighted Nashville's basketball culture and promoted the city's small businesses. The year ended with Big Blue's first Ohio Valley Conference tournament win in seven years and an invite to host the CollegeInsider.com Tournament's John McLendon Classic.
Only four coaches from the OVC were chosen to be a part of the 40 person list.
To be a coach considered, a coach must not have been a head coach in one of the power six conferences before, must have at least two years completed at his current school, and must be willing to rise as a coach.
