Women's Basketball Back at Home Against Trevecca on Monday

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee State University women's basketball will be back at home tomorrow evening as they welcome DII Trevecca Nazarene, who will drive across town for a 5:30 p.m. matchup. The Lady Tigers dropped their first game of the season on Friday night to Kansas City as they fell 82-70. Trevecca comes into tomorrow's matchup in search of their first win.

The Matchup: Tennessee State Tigers (1-1, 0-0 OVC) vs. Trevecca Trojans (0-2, 0-0 GCAC)

SERIES INFORMATION: Despite being separated by just six miles, this will be the first all-time meeting between the Trojans and Tigers. Trevecca competes at the NCAA DII level. TSU last took on a DII opponent in the 2015-16 season when they played both North Alabama (DII at the time) and Lane College, winning both games.  

TRIPLE DOUBLE: The Lady Tigers have three players that are averaging double-digits in scoring through the first two games of the season. Gia Adams 23.5 ppg, Saniah Parker 11.5 ppg, and Erica Haynes-Overton 10.5 ppg round of the Tiger double-digit scoring performers.
 
BACK-TO-BACK: Gia Adams had her second 20-point performance of the season on Friday against Kansas City. After scoring 20 against Fisk in the season opener, Adams dropped 27 on the Roos in Friday night's loss. The sophomore finished 8-of-19 from the floor with five made three-pointers. Adams who is averaging 23.5 ppg is shooting 42.9 percent from the field and 44 percent from beyond the arc through two games.
 
HELPING HANDS: TSU is averaging 14.5 assists per game and has three players averaging 3+ assists. Saniah Parker leads the team with 4.0 apg, followed by Gia Adams with 3.5 apg, and Erica Haynes-Overton with 3.0 apg.
 
TOP TEN: After forcing 40 turnovers in the season opener, and 24 on Friday night against Kansas City, TSU finds themselves in the top ten nationally in turnovers forced per game with 32. The Lady Tigers are 6th in turnovers forced per game and are also 6th in total turnovers forced with 64. TSU has won the turnover battle in each of its first two games.
 
BLOCK PARTY: The Lady Tigers used their size to their advantage on Friday night as they blocked five shots. Saniah Parker and Zyion Shannon both tallied two blocks apiece. While Sierra McCullough finished with one.
