Women's Basketball Looks for 5-0 Home Start; Set to Host Stetson on Sunday

NASHVILLE — The Tennessee State women's basketball team will put their 4-0 home record on the line on Sunday afternoon, as they are set to host Stetson University. The Tigers are off to their best start inside the Gentry Center in seven years. TSU started the 2015-16 season with a 7-0 record inside the Gentry Center.

SERIES INFORMATION: This will be the third matchup between TSU and Stetson, and the first matchup played in Nashville. TSU leads the all-time series 2-0. The two schools first matched up in Deland, Fla., in December of 2016 with TSU earning the 56-50 victory. The Tigers earned their second win over the Hatters less than a year ago in the Hatter Classic in a close 60-56 contest. Gia Adams finished with 13 points in the win, while Saniah Parker chipped in nine points.  
 
SCOUTING STETSON: The Hatters come into Sunday's matchup with a 4-5 record and six full days of rest, having last played on December 4th. Stetson is averaging 63.3 points per game while giving up 58.4. They are shooting 39.8 percent from the field and 29.7 percent from beyond the arc. Jaelyn Talley leads the team in scoring with 12.1 ppg followed by Alyssa Hargrove with 10.6 ppg.
 
DROPPING DIMES: TSU finished with a season-high 16 assists in Wednesday's loss to SIU. True freshman Zyion Shannon led the Lady Tigers with a career-high four helpers. Sierra McCullough and Gia Adams tallied three assists each while Kennedy Davis finished with two.  
 
CENTURY MARK: Erica Haynes-Overton became the second Tiger to cross the 100-point scored plateau this season, as she finished with 12 points against SIU on Wednesday. The grad transfer from Kansas has 108 points on the season, while Gia Adams leads the team with 131.
 
SEASON HIGHS: Saniah Parker and Ashley Malone both tallied season-highs in points against SIU. Parker finished with a team-high 16 points, while Malone, who was making her first start of the season scored 13 points.
 
MIXING IT UP: For the second straight game, head coach Ty Evans had a new group of starters on the floor against SIU. Ashley Malone and Corina Suarez-Tudela both got their first starts of the season, while Erica Haynes-Overton and Gia Adams came off the bench.
 
TOP 15: TSU is ranked 15th in the nation with 23.75 forced turnovers per game. The Lady Tigers lead the OVC in this category, while also leading the OVC in steals per game (12.0), which is ranked 22nd in the country.
