NASHVILLE — The Tennessee State volleyball team took care of business in straight sets (25-17, 25-22, 25-23) to beat the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats on Friday night at Kean Hall Gymnasium.
The out-of-conference win boosted the Tigers' overall record to 4-7 on the season.
Celestial Miller finished with 10 kills on the day to lead the Tiger offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .400. Defensively, had two players reach double figures in digs as Gina Rivera-Ortiz had 18 and Hadley Pride had 11. From the front row, Gabrielle Johnson contributed five blocks.
How It Happened
SET 1 | The Lady Tigers took control of the set-one lead at 3-2 and held the lead the rest of the way to win 25-17. Tennessee State led by nine points at 24-15 before finishing off the set. Tennessee State also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Tennessee State took the second set 25-22 to quickly take a 2-0 lead. The Tigers endured a ferocious Bethune-Cookman rally, holding on to win after leading by seven points at 19-12 earlier in the set. The Tennessee State offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | Tennessee State took set three to finish the match in a 3-0 sweep. The Tigers took the lead for good at 19-18 in a set that showcased two lead changes before Tennessee State took over in the second half of the stanza. They then carried that lead to a 25-23 set win. The Tennessee State offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
