1/6/2023 12:17:00 PM

NASHVILLE- It's a new year, so it is time for the 24th Annual Ed Temple Track & Field Classic hosted by the Tennessee Men's and Women's indoor track and field teams. This year's classic will feature six college programs and a host of high school club teams. Field events start this Saturday at 9 a.m., with running events heating up at 11 a.m.

Ed Temple, a pioneer in coaching women in track, coached the Tigerbelles for 44 years. Temple won 34 national titles and had eight of his athletes inducted into the National Track and Field Hall of Fame, including the current TSU Director of Track & Field Chandra Cheeseborough-Guice

"We are building this program back, so I am excited to get out there to see how we match up against other programs," said Cheeseborough-Guice. "This is always a special event for meet. It is always good to honor a legend like Coach Temple."

The classic will kick off with the annual Ed Temple Champion Dinner benefiting the track program on Friday night. The dinner will be held at the New Residence Hall from 6:30 p.m.-9 p.m. Tigerbelle Natasha Lane-Williams will be the guest speaker.

The college teams slated to compete against TSU are Austin Peay, Cumberland University, Kentucky State, Lane College, and Morehouse University. All events will occur at the Wilma Rudolph Indoor Track Facility inside Gentry Center.
