NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee State men's track & field turned in a series of strong performances across multiple disciplines this weekend, highlighted by competitive sprint finishes and standout distance efforts against a deep regional field.
Sprint Events
The Tigers produced several solid showings in the short sprints, led by freshman Jayden Guy, who advanced through the 100-meter preliminaries with a time of 10.85 seconds before returning in the 200 meters to post a personal-best 21.92.
Junior Damon Jackson added depth for TSU in both events, running 10.92 in the 100 meters and finishing the 200 meters in 22.74. Freshman Donte Barnes clocked 11.06 in the 100, while freshman Jamil Tucker recorded an 11.36 performance in the preliminary round.
In the invitational section of the 100 meters, senior Caleb Joshway delivered one of the Tigers' top sprint performances of the meet, finishing sixth overall with a time of 10.63 after qualifying through the prelims at 10.61.
Tennessee State also saw production in the 200 meters from junior Joshua McClendon, who crossed in 21.92, and junior Kylen Thorps, who posted a personal-best 22.59.
Quarter-Mile Performance
McClendon returned in the 400 meters to lead the Tigers, placing seventh overall with a time of 47.78. The performance kept TSU competitive in one of the meet's deepest sprint fields and continued a strong outdoor season for the junior sprinter.
Middle Distance Highlights
Tennessee State's middle-distance group delivered one of the team's strongest event areas of the weekend in the 800 meters.
Senior Robert Hooper paced the Tigers with a fourth-place finish in 1:51.39, narrowly missing the podium in a tightly contested race. Sophomore Devin Jones followed closely behind, finishing seventh overall in 1:51.77.
Sophomore Delton White added a 1:57.42 performance, while sophomore Landon Thrasher recorded a 2:02.74 finish.
Distance Events
Thrasher returned in the 1500 meters to represent Tennessee State, crossing the line in 4:26.45 as the Tigers continued to build depth within the distance program.
Meet Takeaways
Across sprints, middle distance, and distance events, Tennessee State showed continued development and competitive progress against a strong field featuring regional programs and conference contenders.
The Tigers now shift focus toward postseason competition as performances continue trending upward heading into championship season.
