Tigers Fall to Western Illinois

MACOMB, IL --The Tennessee State volleyball team could not overcome a balanced Leathernecks attack Friday on the road, losing to Western Illinois in straight sets (20-25, 16-25, 18-25). The loss dropped Tennessee State's record to 2-23 overall and 2-13 in OVC action.

Celestial Miller finished with a match-high11 kills on the day to lead the Tigers attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .250.  They were led defensively with 12 digs from Celianiz Cabranes.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Tigers fell behind early, dropping the first set 25-20. Tennessee State trailed by as many as seven points as Western Illinois grabbed the advantage for good at 13-12 in a set that was knotted up three times before the Leathernecks took control.

SET 2 | TSU lost set two 25-16, digging a 2-0 hole in the match. The Tigers trailed by as many as nine points as Western Illinois grabbed the advantage for good at 9-8 in a set tied up seven times before the Leathernecks took over the lead.

SET 3 | Western Illinois finished off the sweep with a set-three victory. The Tigers lost a tough set 25-18. Tennessee State trailed by as many as seven points as Western Illinois grabbed the early advantage for good at 7-6 in a set that was knotted up three times before the Leathernecks took over the lead.

Both teams will be back in action on Saturday at 2 p.m.
