OPENING TIP — Fresh off a season-opening win, the Tennessee State University women's basketball team will head east to North Carolina for their first road trip of the season as
Ty Evans will have his team play two games this weekend. The Lady Tigers will square off against Charlotte on Friday afternoon, followed by a Sunday matinee with UNC Asheville.

SERIES INFORMATION: This will be the second-ever meeting between TSU and UNC Charlotte as the two teams first met 22 years ago in 2001. The 49ers took down the Lady Tigers in the first meeting 56-40 in a game that was played in Honolulu, Hawaii.

SERIES INFORMATION: This will be the third meeting all-time between TSU and UNC Asheville. The Tigers and the Bulldogs played a home and home in the 2003-04 and 2004-05 seasons with UNC Asheville taking both games. The first matchup was played in Asheville with the Bulldogs earning the 59-47 win, followed by a 64-53 victory in Nashville the following year.
TSU DEBUT: Five Lady Tigers made their TSU debut in the win over Fisk, with three of the five getting the starting nod.
Caitlin Anderson,
Eboni Williams, and
Diamond Cannon were all in the starting lineup for their debut, while
Jordan Aikens and
Aaniya Webb came off the bench.
BACK ON THE COURT: After having not played in a game due to injuries and transfer rules since March 4, 2021, TSU forward
Eboni Williams seemingly picked up right where she left off as she made her Lady Tiger debut on Monday evening. Williams, who sat out last year got the start against Wilberforce and made the most of it as she led the team with 15 points and four steals. The Chattanooga transfer finished 7-of-11 from the floor.
FRESH START: Aaniya Webb finished with a career-high 14 points in her Lady Tiger debut, while also setting a new high in minutes played with 29. Webb, who transferred in from St. Bonaventure doubled her career high after finishing with seven points on three occasions as a freshman. Her 29 minutes played against Wilberforce was a team-high.
EASTBOUND AND DOWN: Head coach
Ty Evans is 2-1 when traveling to play on the East Coast. The Lady Tigers dropped a game at Mercer in Evans's first year on November 28, 2020, and have won two games out east since. The Lady Tigers picked up wins at Georgia State (70-67) and at Stetson (60-56) in 2021. This will mark TSU's first trip to North Carolina since the team took on North Carolina State in Raleigh in November of 2014.
THEIF IN THE NIGHT: The TSU defense finished with 17 steals in the opener against Wilberforce, taking just one game to match their season-high of 17 steals against Omaha last season. The Lady Tiger's 17 swipes against WU are the most in a game in the OVC this season. Williams led the team with four steals followed by
Lyric Cole and
Diamond Cannon who both tallied three apiece.
