Box Score 3 NASHVILLE – The Tennessee State women's tennis team picked up its first Ohio Valley Conference win of the season on Friday while finishing the weekend 2-1. The Tigers claimed two wins on Friday afternoon over Western Illinois and Tennessee Southern, while falling to SIUE on Sunday. The two wins move TSU to 3-13, 1-1 OVC.
TSU 4, WIU 3
The Tigers played two matches indoors at Hadley Park on Friday and started the afternoon by defeating Western Illinois 4-3 to claim the OVC victory.

Perri Howard won 6-3 in the first slot, while
Franka Sindicic /
Louise Ratiu claimed a 6-2 win at line two.
Jovana Nikolic /
Natalie Walsh earned a 7-5 victory in the third slot.
The Tigers were able to pick up wins at lines one, five, and six to add three points to its total. Mdlulwa had no problems at line one as she cruised to a 6-3, 6-0 victory. Nikolic rolled to a win at No. 5 after defeating her opponent 6-1, 6-2.
Francisca Gomez-Weiss won her match at line six 6-3, 6-1.
The win over the Bulldogs marked TSU's first OVC win of the season.
TSU 6, UTS 1
TSU took on UT Southern in its second match of the afternoon and won 6-1. The Tigers claimed wins at lines one and two to take the doubles point. The duo of Sindicic / Ratiu claimed a 6-2 win in the first slot, while

Aroa Arrieta Castillo logged a 6-1 win at line two.
The Tigers had no problems in the singles portion of play as they logged five wins. Mdlulwa won 6-0, 6-3 at line one, while Nikolic won in a tight 6-4, 7-6 battle.
Koleva won her match at line four 7-5, 6-2, followed by Sindicic who claimed a 7-5, 6-2 win. Walsh rounded out TSU's lineup at No. 6 as she cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win.
SIUE 7, TSU 0
TSU was unable to put a point on the board as they traveled to SIUE for a Sunday afternoon match, falling 7-0 to the Cougars. The OVC match marked TSU's third contest of the weekend.
SIUE cruised to wins in all three spots in the doubles portion of play winning 6-1, 6-1, 6-0. Mdlulwa / Howard and Walsh / Nikolic both got points on the board.
Howard was the only Tiger to win a set as she fell 1-6, 6-4, 0-6 in a three-set match at line four. Mdlulwa put up a fight at line one despite dropping the match 6-7, 3-6.
Next Up
The Tigers will travel up I-65 to Bowling Green, Ky., next Saturday to take on Western Kentucky in a doubleheader.
