PADUCAH, Ky. – The Tennessee State men's golf team participated in the Carpenter Chaney Classic held at the Country Club of Paducah on Monday and Tuesday, engaging in match play against eight Ohio Valley Conference schools. TSU finished the two-day event 1-2 and in 7th place.
In their opening match on Monday morning, the Tigers faced UT Martin, ultimately falling 5-1. The sole victory for TSU came from Carter Walton, who secured a 2&1 win.
Continuing their competition, TSU took on Southern Indiana, resulting in a 4-0-2 loss. Both Walton and Spencer McCranie ended their matches in a tie.
Wrapping up the event this morning on a wet and soggy course, TSU was able to secure a 4-1-1 victory over Eastern Illinois, concluding the tournament with a 1-2 record. Walton secured a decisive 7&5 win, while McCranie contributed with a 6&5 victory. Issac Napier won his match 8&6, and Bo Twerdahl secured a 3&1 victory. Jared Southerland tied his opponent, while Adam Khan faced defeat in his match.
Walton finished the event 2-0-1 after earning wins over UTM and EIU.
The Tigers are set to return to action on April 8 and 9 as they host the Big Blue Intercollegiate at the Hermitage Golf Club.
