CINCINNATI, OH – Tennessee State men's tennis closed out its 2026 season Saturday with a hard-fought 4-3 loss to Youngstown State in the Horizon League Championship Tournament, showcasing resilience and competitive play until the final match point.
The Tigers pushed the match to the brink behind strong singles performances, winning three individual courts and nearly overcoming an early doubles deficit.
Youngstown State secured the doubles point with wins on courts one and three, but Tennessee State responded immediately once singles play began.
Taj Hibbert delivered a commanding performance at No. 1 singles, defeating Alexis Maulouet in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2, to give TSU early momentum. Mete Koseoglu followed with a three-set victory at No. 2 singles, battling back after dropping the second set to earn a 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 win.
Christopher Bogelin added another point for the Tigers at No. 6 singles, securing a 6-4, 7-5 victory to keep Tennessee State within striking distance late in the match.
Despite the Tigers' comeback effort, Youngstown State claimed victories on courts three, four, and five to narrowly secure the team win.
Tennessee State concludes the season showing continued growth and competitiveness within the Horizon League, highlighted by strong leadership at the top of the lineup and multiple tightly contested matches throughout the tournament.
