TSU Softball Drops Two at Western Kentucky

Bowling Green, Ky. --- The Tennessee State University softball team dropped an 8-1 decision to Western Kentucky before falling to the Hilltoppers 5-2 in game two, Tuesday evening at the WKU Softball Complex.

 

Tennessee State (15-28) recorded ten hits while Western Kentucky (16-25) tallied 19 hits in the double-header.

 

Jennifer Gregory led the first inning off by reaching on an error by the centerfielder. She later scored on an error by the catcher to give TSU a 1-0 lead. The lead, however, would be short-lived as WKU used a two-run shot to centerfield to go ahead 2-1 in the bottom half of the frame.

 

Western Kentucky added another run in the second inning before posting five runs in the fourth to make the lead 8-1.

 

Bridget Metzger recorded a team-high two hits in the contest.

 

Four hits in the bottom of the second inning led to the Hilltoppers grabbing a 2-0 lead in game two.

 

TSU answered in the top of the third when Jill Gardner led the inning off with a single to second base. Tamara Perkins tripled down the right field line to score Gardner. Perkins then scored on a single to center from Bridget Metzger to tie the game at two.

 

WKU took the lead for good in the fifth on a three-run homerun by She. Smith.

 

Perkins led TSU with two hits and also recorded an RBI. Metzger also registered one RBI.

 

TSU returns to conference action on Saturday, March 19 at Tennessee-Martin. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
